My Bio
"Akitla. A name that was as ironic as the reason I'd come back. I cringed instinctively. It was a word that was born of satire, invented by a writer who composed a long list of 'Inuit words for snow.' His list included a hundred or so fabricated words, which he published as a sort of commentary, although whether it was a commentary on the lifestyle of the Inuit, or on the ignorance of the general public to their culture, I will probably never know. Akitla, in this list, was defined as meaning 'snow falling on water.'" -Becoming the Hunted, Ch. 1

I am a female Social Anthropology major studying at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, and my degree pretty much defines my interests. I am fascinated by people, their cultures, and the way those cultures interact, and that combined with an obsession with nature, animals, and spirituality (in all of its myriad forms) are a huge influence on my art. For older works, please check out my other account, HatakeNobara. A lot of it reflects an earlier period in my life, but the photography is kind of my transition to this account. I hope you enjoy my art, and feel free to comment/add me, I love making new friends!

Hello again, deviantArt! I feel like I've been saying this a lot, but... it certainly has been a while! First things first: a brief catch-up. I have now, as of a few weeks ago, finished my first degree, and am awaiting my graduation ceremony, after which I will be a qualified MA(Hons) in Social Anthropology. This is only the second most exciting thing going on in my life academically right now, as the first most exciting thing is that I've been given a place on a Master's program at Oxford! So the next year of my life will be spent there researching Visual, Material, and Museum Anthropology at the Pitt-Rivers Museum and beyond. It really do

Hello again, everyone. :) For those of you who keep up with the things I post, you'll notice many of my new photos have a distinctly desert look to them. I've recently returned from a rather wonderful road trip to one of my favourite wilderness locations, the Lava Beds National Monument in Northern California. Many of my new shots are from around there, and I am so pleased at having been able to return there equipped with my DSLR, which I didn't bring last time. The unique, rocky terrain of this country is really due to the fact that it is all located on top of a huge shield volcano-- essentially, a really large, gradual lump. Years ago, la

Hello to anyone that may have stumbled across this page! I'm Akitla, nice to meet you! I am not new to deviantArt, but I guess you could say this is me starting out fresh. For those of you who knew me as HatakeNobara (https://www.deviantart.com/hatakenobara), welcome to my new page! While I still have a fond, sentimental attachment to that page, I've recently decided that it doesn't reflect me as I am today. I wanted a new space, a place fresh and uncluttered with the thoughts of a frantic teenager, and a place where I can display my older, more developed art. For those of you who don't know me, introductions are in order! My real name is Sabrina, but please call me Akitla, Ki
