"Akitla. A name that was as ironic as the reason I'd come back. I cringed instinctively. It was a word that was born of satire, invented by a writer who composed a long list of 'Inuit words for snow.' His list included a hundred or so fabricated words, which he published as a sort of commentary, although whether it was a commentary on the lifestyle of the Inuit, or on the ignorance of the general public to their culture, I will probably never know. Akitla, in this list, was defined as meaning 'snow falling on water.'" -Becoming the Hunted, Ch. 1
I am a female Social Anthropology major studying at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, and my degree pretty much defines my interests. I am fascinated by people, their cultures, and the way those cultures interact, and that combined with an obsession with nature, animals, and spirituality (in all of its myriad forms) are a huge influence on my art. For older works, please check out my other account,
HatakeNobara. A lot of it reflects an earlier period in my life, but the photography is kind of my transition to this account. I hope you enjoy my art, and feel free to comment/add me, I love making new friends!
